Accessibility statement
Draft for review by Maison · last reviewed
We want everyone to be able to browse, buy from and get help from Maison, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, voice control or other assistive technology. This statement explains how accessible our online store is today, what we know does not work well yet, and how to tell us about a problem.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the store: browsing and search, product pages, the bag, checkout and payment, order tracking, returns and your account.
Where we are now
The store partially meets WCAG 2.2 AA. We have not yet completed a full accessibility audit, and this statement has not been checked by an independent auditor. The parts we know fall short are listed below.
What we have done so far:
- Automated accessibility checks (axe) on our main pages, at desktop and phone sizes, every time the store is changed.
- Scripted keyboard checks: the skip link, menus, dialogs, the cookie banner and the product image viewer can be used without a mouse, and the keyboard focus stays visible.
- Colour contrast checked for every text and background colour we use.
- Prices are read with their currency, error messages say how to fix a field, and changes to your bag and checkout are announced.
- Animation is reduced when your device asks for reduced motion.
Known limitations
- No one has yet tested the store from start to finish with a screen reader (such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack). Automated checks find only part of the problems a person would.
- Zooming to 400% and enlarging text only have not yet been checked by a person on every page.
- High contrast (forced colours) modes have not yet been reviewed.
- The card payment form is provided by our payment provider inside a frame. We have not yet tested it with assistive technology.
- Our order and delivery emails have not yet been tested with screen readers in email apps.
- Some messages in your account area may not be read out by every screen reader when they appear.
- Checkout holds your prices for a limited time and warns you before the hold ends using your device’s clock. If the clock is wrong the warning can come early or late; you can always review your order again before paying.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the store does not work for you, or you need information in a different format, please contact us. It helps to include:
- the page address, or what you were trying to do
- what went wrong
- the device, browser and any assistive technology you use
We will reply, tell you what we will do about it, and use what you tell us to fix the store. If you cannot finish an order online, contact us and our team can place it with you and send you a secure link to pay.
If you are not happy with our response
In Australia you can make a complaint about disability discrimination to the Australian Human Rights Commission.
About this statement
This statement was prepared on from our own automated tests and a review of the store’s code by the team that builds it. It is a draft awaiting review by Maison. We will review it again after each round of testing with people who use assistive technology.
